Kireedam

Spoiler-free review.

The film’s tragedy lies in how a person’s potential can be erased by forces beyond their control. The pressure to conform becomes a prison of its own making. Sibi Malayil builds tension through the relationship between Sethumadhavan and his father, revealing how love can become a burden when expectations are too high.

Mohanlal brings vulnerability and strength to Sethumadhavan, showing a man caught between pride and despair without ever losing his humanity. His performance makes the character's suffering personal rather than symbolic. We see the cost of failure in every glance and hesitation.

Thilakan’s portrayal of the father is equally nuanced, balancing love with authority. His presence adds depth to the emotional stakes. The film does not villainise the father but shows how well-meaning pressure can destroy a person's sense of self.

The writing ensures that the social forces at play feel immediate and real, not abstract or distant from the characters’ lives. Kireedam avoids melodrama by focusing on the quiet despair of a life unraveling under collective judgment rather than dramatic confrontation.

Mohanlal’s performance is layered, showing how ambition can be both a driving force and a trap when misdirected. The screenplay allows moments of tenderness to shine through the despair, making the emotional journey more impactful.

Sibi Malayil keeps the focus on the personal rather than the political, ensuring the story remains grounded in human experience. The film’s legacy lies in its ability to make us question who truly defines our worth and what happens when we are forced into roles we never chose.
